Zara Tindall competes in a dressage event at Whatley Manor Horse Trials

Zara Tindall appeared thrilled to be back in the saddle as she competed at the Whatley Manor Horse Trials at Gatcombe Park today.

The Queen’s granddaughter, 38, donned a top hat and dressage uniform as she attended the event at her mother Princess Anne’s Gloucestershire estate.

As ever the supportive parent, the Princess Royal, 69, attended the trials, clad in her country garb.

Pictured flashing a wide smile while on her trusty horse Gladstone, accomplished royal rider Zara was watched by crowds of onlookers at the prestigious occasion.

Teaming a smart navy double-breasted jacket with white slacks, the daughter of the Princess Royal looked like she meant business as she elegantly rode across the impressive course.

The mother-of-two, who has had a busy few weeks of competing, tied her blonde hair back to keep it off her face for the equestrian event.

It’s unknown if Zara’s husband Mike Tindall, 40, and their children Mia, five, and Lena, one, were in attendance.

Zara previously won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics as part of the Great Britain Eventing Team.

The venue for the equestrian event was part of Princess Anne’s sprawling Gloucestershire estate on which the Tindalls own a cottage.

The Queen’s granddaughter is a serious international equestrian competitor, having garnered a gold medal at the European Eventing Championships in 2005 in addition to attaining a silver medal at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.

The mother-of-one was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year and has been nicknamed the Royal Olympian.

Zara first met Mike 13 years ago in Sydney, Australia during the 2003 Rugby World Cup – after being introduced by Prince Harry.

The Queen gave her consent to their marriage in May 2011 and their wedding was held on July 30, 2011 at the Canongate Kirkin Edinburgh, Scotland.

And now they live together in a cottage on her mother’s Gloucestershire estate, with Mia, who Mike has previously described as ‘quite relaxed’, and Lena.
