A trans woman has shared the heartwarming response she received from a man after she told him she was transgender.
Since the 22-year-old posted the photo of the text message she received, the tweet has gone viral, as hundreds of fellow Twitter users joined in to praise the man’s positive outlook and supportive reply.
Viral: Twitter user Tiffany Monroe, 22, posted a photo of a text message she received from a man she was texting when she told him she was a transgender woman
Support: The text, a screenshot of which was posted by the Texas-native on Sunday, detailed that the man didn’t mind that she was transgender, as he said her past ‘shouldn’t matter’
Impressed: Since the tweet was posted, it has received an abundance of comments as people praise the man’s kind, supportive reaction
The man, who wasn’t named in the tweet, responded to Tiffany telling him she was transgender, saying that he didn’t care about the fact that she was a trans woman.
He said: ‘Honestly I ain’t too worried about that if that’s the case.
Happy: Tiffany (pictured) seemed delighted to have received such a warm response from someone
‘I mean you a woman and I ain’t gay so what you talking about exactly.
He added: ‘It’s 2019. I’m a grown man, your past shouldn’t matter like that.’
Hundreds of Twitter users have left comments on the post, as many can’t believe how kind and supportive the unknown man was.
Twitter user @_clvrarose commented on the tweet, saying that the man’s response was a ‘breath of fresh air’.
She wrote: ‘In a world where trans people are treated so horribly and dehumanized… its an absolute breath of fresh air to see responses like that.
‘Although as you said, it should be bare minimum and just common,’ she added.
User @AaronsRainbow wrote: ‘As a person who is working on her transition, I approve these messages!’
‘Wowww this is a MAN you found a real and not at all egocentric man idk you but i’m happy for, i understand this is usually a difficult situation for trans bc not everyone has the same reaction,’ added user @groovyp_.
User @cauldron_0 said she hoped this kind of reaction will become the ‘standard’ in the future.
She said: ‘I feel like slowly, this is and hopefully will be the new standard.
Praise! Almost 1,000 people have commented on the post. Many thought the message was lovely, with some users even telling Tiffany to ‘keep’ or ‘marry’ the unnamed man
‘The most handsome sexy guys I’ve been with recently share this attitude and basically said the same thing. I think the tgirl agenda is taking hold slowly but surely,’ she added.
Another user, under the username @AlissaAvni said: ‘He was raised correctly and i love it.’
Meanwhile other users revealed similar stories to Tiffany’s, including one user who recently experienced gender dysphoria – the distress someone experiences as a result of the sex and gender they were assigned at birth.
The user, @NotSoSunshineMA, explained: ‘I recently told my bf that I’ve been experiencing some gender dysphoria and asked if that meant we’d break up since he initially identified as straight, and this man just looks at me and says “I’m dating you because of YOU, not because of your gender.”
‘He then walked out of the room and started playing Tetris 99 without another word. A MAN,’ they added.
Similarly, user @GrayWRonan detailed an experience that involved someone supporting them.
They wrote: ‘Ayyyy! Girlie I got the same energy from my boo thang recently and it changes your whole attitude.’
User @sun_rise_up said he told his boyfriend he was a trans male, and also received a great reaction.
He said: ‘Reminds me of my boyfriend when we met!! I don’t pass but I’m a trans guy and when I told him he went “That’s no problem, I’m bisexual!”‘
Positive: Others detailed similar responses they have received from people, while some users said such responses shouldn’t be ‘applauded’, because they should be the normal reaction
Other users seemed keen for the poster, Tiffany, to have a successful relationship with the unnamed man.
Some Twitter users even went as far as telling her to marry him.
User @daniel_xClips said: ‘KEEP (and I cannot stress this enough) H I M.’
Another Twitter user, @xenemymind said: ‘I….hope yall spend forever together.’
‘Marry him,’ wrote user @BeezMarie, while @LvdyJvde_ added: ‘I love this sooo much. This genuinely makes me sooo happy for you!’
However, despite a mostly positive reaction, some users thought the man’s reaction shouldn’t necessarily be praised, as this kind of response to someone revealing their gender should be expected.
User @BeezMarie said: ‘I don’t want to praise him for the simple fact that we’re praising him for treating someone like a damn human being as he should, but I’m going to praise the absolute f**k outta him because people ain’t s**t anymore.’
Another user @jennyrenay simply added: ‘This should be the standard.’
User @HOEtaru_HOMOe added: ‘At the same time, this basic human decency should be normal. And not something to applaud.’
Since the tweet was posted on Sunday, it has gone viral, receiving over 100,000 likes and approximately 15,000 retweets.
Tiffany, the original poster, took to the platform to thank those who supported her.
She wrote: ‘Thank you to all the lovely people being so nice to me, y’all are beautiful, deserve love and I hope you have a good night/day!’
