1. Check what you already own

Canna said when it comes to shopping the sales effectively, the first things she does year in and year out is check what she already owns.

‘I personally like to see and touch everything, because it reminds me what I already have but also shows me what I might be missing,’ Canna said in a video on Black Friday shopping hacks.

Once this is done, the expert said she lays all of her clothes on her bed, goes through them all and mentally identifies any holes of what she is lacking.

2. Write a list

Before heading online to the sales, Canna said the next thing she does is write a list of everything that she actually needs.

‘I sit down and write this list a week in advance, and I even take it one step further and cross-reference it against my diary,’ Canna said.

By cross-referencing everything, you’ll know of any upcoming birthdays, events or parties that you need to buy presents for and you can potentially save money.

‘Use the sales as a great opportunity to lock in some great savings from your online purchases,’ Canna said.

As you are researching online, you could also add anything you know you want to a wish list on an app like Klarna, and as soon as something goes on sale, you’ll be notified of the discounts.

'If you're on a tight budget but value quality over quantity, I really recommend looking at the pre-loved economy before you go anywhere else,' Canna (pictured) said

3. Consider the pre-loved economy

Thirdly, Canna said you could also consider the pre-loved economy when you’re doing your Black Friday shopping, as there are plenty of deals to be had.

‘If you’re on a tight budget but value quality over quantity, I really recommend looking at the pre-loved economy before you go anywhere else,’ Canna said.

‘Not only does this help you save money, but you’re also reducing landfill.’

Before the sales begin, Canna (pictured) recommends you always do a budget and work out the total amount you have to spend on all your Black Friday purchases

4. Do a budget

Before the sales begin, Canna recommends you always do a budget and work out the total amount you have to spend on all your Black Friday purchases.

‘Write down a list of who you have to buy Christmas presents for and budget accordingly,’ Canna said.

Most importantly, make sure you never blow your budget and get left out of pocket.
