The BEST pie in Australia for 2020 has been named by the Baking Association

Australia’s best pie for 2020 has been crowned by the Baking Association of Australia after beating nearly 2,000 pastries for the top spot.

The Pepper Beef Pie by Country Cob Bakery in the Victorian town of Boronia, 29 kilometres east of Melbourne, was awarded top gong, and has won for the past three years in a row.

The win marks the fifth time the pie has won overall, making it tough competitor to beat.

The popular $5.90 beef pie was judged by a panel of critics who made the final decision after tasting 1947 different pies across 14 categories.

‘The history repeats. We have done it again. Australia’s Best Pie Champion three years in a row,’ the bakery said on Facebook.

‘We also took out Australia’s Best Plain Beef Pie, Australia’s Best Gourmet Pie (BBQ pork and Quail egg), Australia’s Best Flavour Beef Pie (Pepper Beef) and Australia’s Best Vegetarian/Vegan Pie (curry cauliflower, lentil, chickpea).’

More than 320 bakeries from across Australia participated in the competition, serving up their best and tastiest pies.

Each pie was judged on colour, presentation, uniformity as well as on taste and aroma.

A Malaysian seafood pie was awarded second prize in the plain mince category, while the best pastie was awarded to Jo Jo’s Gluten Free Goodies in the town of Kernot.
