In July 2019, Tess came out as pansexual and said she would be open to a relationship with a woman. At the time, she was in a monogamous heterosexual marriage with Nick, who describes himself as a ‘queer dad’ on his Instagram bio.

The influencer alluded to problems in their relationship in an interview with Parents that was featured in the magazine’s January issue.

Tess shared that she and Nick were living apart, saying he had been ‘working on himself’ in his native Australia since September 2019. However, she declined to comment on their relationship status.

She vaguely referenced her marriage to Nick in a post about letting go, which she shared on Instagram in February.

‘We are told to lower our expectations because fat bodies are viewed as undesirable and sub human, and we should be “lucky” to have someone find us attractive, and hell, if we are lucky, truly love us,’ she wrote.

‘So for me, love was always something foreign, and because of that I allowed people to treat me poorly because I didn’t fully know how to love myself.⁣ ⁣

‘I wish I could stand here tell you that loving myself was the only key, and from that point on, I never allowed anyone else to treat me poorly… but that’s not the case. I’m writing this as someone who is learning to let go of the life I had planned so I can make room for the life that’s waiting for me,’ she continued.

‘Self-love is a lifelong process, and I still have so much to learn. To recognize myself in the mirror again, to live loudly and unapologetically, to heal, and to share all of this with you all… to me, that’s what real self-love is.

‘To be able to let go of something that was hurting me, and to be able to choose myself, that feels like a new love I’ve never experienced.’

The former couple met in 2012 after Nick reached out to Tess on Tumblr to tell her he loved her body-positive message.

They tied the knot at Las Vegas chapel on July 5, 2015, but she didn’t announce they were married until two years later, shocking many of her fans.

Tess and Nick share a four-year-old son Bowie, but he has also been a father figure to her 14-year-old son Rylee from a previous relationship.

The cover star’s photographer husband has taken many of the racy candid snapshots featured on her Instagram, but he has been noticeably absent from her page in recent years.

Tess has been open about Nick’s personal struggles, and in 2017 she paid tribute to him on World Mental Health Day, praising him for breaking the stigma’ and speaking openly about his life with mental illness.

‘I’m not gonna lie, before we got together I didn’t know much about depression, BPD, or the numerous other things that so many people we love, live with every day,’ admitted Tess, who struggled with postnatal depression after the birth of her youngest son.

‘People who have mental illness aren’t failures,’ she added. ‘You are not lazy… You are not a burden…There is no shame in taking medication if you see fit… You are loved & YOU matter.’
