Olympic skier reveals the secret to her six-pack

Australian freestyle skier Danielle Scott, who is known for her defined stomach muscles, has revealed the secret to building a six-pack.

The 29-year-old Australian Olympian is preparing for the ski season to begin again, and that means hitting the gym to make sure her body is in peak condition.

But instead of doing crunches and straight up-and-down toe touches to achieve a chiselled core, Miss Scott will be opting for some different angles.

‘I think everyone gets caught up in doing these forward-and-back core exercises – your sit ups and your crunches – and you kind of forget to do the side twisting motions,’ she told Body and Soul.

Working on her obliques is an easy way to fire up the entire midsection – and just by looking at images of the champion athlete you can see that it works.

The movements can be as easy as bicycling your arms and legs from left to right or doing side planks with an arm swing under your waist.

'It doesn't have to be taxing, but you just need to switch on those core muscles in a different way that then brings out the definition,' she said

‘Do each exercises till you can feel the burn, change it up, do another exercise till you can feel the burn and then do that circuit three times through. So, let’s say five exercises, three times through.’

Diet-wise she prefers to stick to a mainly plant-based fare and she doesn’t subscribe to notions that carbs, fats or proteins are ‘bad’ for her body.

For Miss Scott the most important objective is fuelling her body so she can keep up with the harsh demands of her busy, training-filled lifestyle.

But she hasn’t always been a professional skier.

She was offered a scholarship for Artistic Gymnastics at the age of seven at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), being the youngest athlete to be offered a scholarship there in the institutions history.

But she traded the beams and handstands for an adrenaline rush on the ice and represented Australia at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games as an aerialist.

She also won a bronze medal at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in 2013.
