Melbourne professional cleaner Kacie reveals her simple tricks to cleaning a toaster

A professional cleaner has revealed a ‘secret’ tray compartment inside your toaster that many never knew existed.

Kacie, from Melbourne, shared a now-viral TikTok video showing exactly how she typically cleans the kitchen gadget – but dozens of people were surprised when she pulled out the crumb tray from beneath the toaster.

In the video, she used a cloth to clean the outside before she removed the crumb  tray located at the base of the toaster to empty the dried pieces into a bin.

‘Wait, toasters have trays?’ one wrote, while a second said: ‘I was today years old when I found out that toasters have trays.’

And a third added: ‘What the hell!! My toaster has one and I had no idea.’

Kacie, from Melbourne, shared a now-viral TikTok video showing exactly how she typically cleans the kitchen gadget – but dozens of people were surprised when she pulled out the crumb tray (right) from beneath the toaster

Many admitted they never knew about the compartment, while others rushed out to their kitchens to check if they had any crumb tray.

‘I never knew this… I just checked and my toaster does have a tray,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘I immediately ran to my toaster, and there was an entire loaf worth of crumbs [on the tray].’

And one added: ‘What!! I went to check if my toaster has a tray and it does?!’

Some even joked: ‘Today I learned that you have to clean your toaster.’

Many said they knew about the crumb tray for years, while others were more amused about people who didn’t know the compartment existed.

‘A few years back, my toaster caught on fire because I didn’t know they had trays to empty out the crumbs. I learnt my lesson,’ one wrote.

She said the best way to clean it was to simply empty the crumb tray and turning the toaster upside down and gently tapping it over a bin as well as using a cloth to wipe the surface

A second said: ‘Yes there is a tray. It can pop out or slide out depending on the toaster. Clean the trays y’all or violently shake it over the trash bin.’

Another admitted: ‘It scares me how many people here had no idea that most toasters have a tray,’ while one woman added: ‘I can’t believe people never knew their toasters have trays.’

However, others pointed out that not all toasters are designed with the tray.

The video has since been viewed more than 1.8 million times after Kacie shared her simple way of cleaning a toaster.

‘There are cleaning hacks going around the internet that are not really cleaning hacks at all – they make it harder,’ she explained.

‘I’m a professional cleaner and this week, I was sent [a hack] saying “clean your toaster with a hairdryer”.’

She said the best way to clean it was to simply empty the crumb tray and turning the toaster upside down and gently tapping it over a bin as well as using a cloth to wipe the surface.

Another tip she shared was unplugging the toaster and using a clean, dry toothbrush to remove the tough crumbs inside the gadget.
