Interior designer, 30, asks everyone at her $40,000 wedding to wear white

While some brides may be offended by guests wearing white on their wedding day, one bride has revealed why she ignored the tradition and asked all of the bridal party and attendees to wear white with her.

Mother-of-three Christine Ghrayche said the reason behind her non-traditional choice was simple – she wanted everyone to know the wedding day wasn’t just about her.

‘From the start I wanted all white and Luke was happy to let me run with it,’ the 30-year-old from Orange, New South Wales, told FEMAIL.

'Being an interior designer and creative I've never been one to stay inside the box. The whole theme was white with a touch of greenery. I also wanted to make the day all about us, including guests, and not just me,' she said

‘Yes, I was the bride, but it’s the joining of two families so why not make us equal?’

Christine and Luke Durham, 32, met on the dating app Plenty Of Fish but didn’t hit it off straight away.

‘I actually ignored his first attempt at contacting me. But he was persistent. Our first date, we got on so well, it lasted all day,’ she said.

‘Brunch at The Coffee Club, Ten Pin Bowling and hot chips for lunch. Dinner at The Parkview. We had been together four years and I was eight months pregnant with our third when he proposed.’

Christine remembers being asked more than once if she was going to wear a white dress and even started to consider a soft blue gown, but ultimately decided to stick to her original decision.

‘Many guests were shocked by the dress code. We included it on the invitation set so everybody knew,’ she said.

‘Luke had to field questions from a lot of his mates that weren’t so fashion savvy. My family had a good whinge about it. But once it had time to sink in for everyone, it was fine.’

‘My family are Lebanese so it was important to me that was incorporated. Luke’s family arrived on the boats with James Cook. So we had a fusion wedding,’ she said.

'I had a spreadsheet to track every dollar. One reason we planned 18 months ahead, apart from the baby, was we didn't want to go into debt to pay for it. Eighteen months gave us enough time to pay it off incrementally,' she said

‘For the Lebanese side we had the drummers and traditional appetisers like tabouli and kibbeh. For the Australian side we incorporated lots of native flora and a kangaroo canape.’

With a background in marketing and graphic design, Christine cut costs by designing the invitations and place cards herself.

‘Oh and I had to make my own garter belt. Three days before the wedding I realised I didn’t have one,’ she said.

‘Numerous calls where made to the lingerie stores in town but I couldn’t find one. Finally I put a call out on a local mums group and someone suggested hitting up Spotlight. So I bought a length of elastic and some lace and sewed it together at home.’
