Ahead of the release of the new tell-all Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady — which shares behind-the-scenes stories from author Stephanie Winston Wolkoff’s relationship with Mrs. Trump — a newly-published excerpt reveals the unlikely friendship between the book’s subject and fashion designer Rachel Roy.
In fact, Rachel reportedly texted Melania that her husband was ‘amazing’ during his presidential acceptance speech and that Melania herself was ‘made for’ the role of first lady, despite her own Democratic party leanings.

In the excerpt from the forthcoming book, author Stephanie recalled planning Trump’s inauguration and shared specific memories from election night.
She said that as the President delivered his acceptance speech, Rachel Roy was sending messages to a group text with Melania and Stephanie while watching at home on CNN.
‘DT is amazing! MT is so beautiful! Speech very Donald who we all know and love,’ she reportedly wrote — earning a ‘scoff’ from Stephanie, who says that Rachel ‘was a lifelong Democrat.’
‘Our work is just beginning,’ Rachel allegedly texted. ‘Let’s be the change we want to see in the world. Let’s work for women and children.
‘This s*** is crazy. You have always been this role. You have lived it. You got this! Saying a prayer for Donald’s safety!’ she went on. Stephanie characterized the designer as ‘overexcited.’
Melania simply replied: ‘Love you both.’
Rachel also texted the next day, Stephanie recalled, asking if she could have a celebratory luncheon with Melania.
‘I need to see my schedule,’ Melania wrote back.
‘Yes, Madame President. No pressure, Rachel is said to have replied.
Friends: Stephanie (pictured second from left) said Rachel called Trump ‘amazing’ and said Melania was made for the role of first lady
Gossip: In the book, Stephanie also discussed Melania’s reported dislike of Ivanka, whom she called ‘princess’
In the book, Stephanie also discussed Melania’s reported dislike of Ivanka, whom she called ‘princess.’ She said that the pair arranged a plan to keep Ivanka off-camera during her father’s swearing-in.
‘Melania and I launched Operation Block Ivanka to keep her face out of that iconic “special moment,”‘ she said, detailing how they studied and charted camera angles to ensure that Ivanka would be hidden behind Melania.
Out soon: Stephanie Winston Wolkoff shared the details in her new book after her longtime friendship with the First Lady went sour
‘If Ivanka was not on the aisle, her face would be hidden while she was seated. For the standing part, we put Barron between Donald and Melania and made sure that Don Jr. stood next to Melania, not Ivanka,’ Stephanie wrote.
Rachel was also reportedly made aware of the plan, and texted while watching the Inauguration on TV from a hotel room in Washington, D.C.
She sent a photo of Melania’s head blocking Ivanka’s on TV and wrote: ‘Happy MT blocked IT!’
‘Yes, Operation Block Ivanka was petty,’ Stephanie admitted. ‘Melania was in on this mission. But in our minds, Ivanka shouldn’t have made herself the center of attention in her father’s inauguration.’
Melania’s friendship with Rachel has been documented by the cameras. The two were photographed together on several occasions, including at Michael’s Restaurant circa February 2012.
They also posed for pictures together at a 2007 charity benefit, and in June of 2010, Melania wrote on Facebook: ‘Had lunch yesterday with Rachel Roy…she looked fantastic in my gold mesh bracelet from “Melania™ Timepieces & Jewelry”…available on QVC.com!’
Shifting politics? While Stephanie describes Rachel as a ‘lifelong Democrat,’ the designer has been to the White House since Trump took office
The pair were also seen smiling with Stephanie in D.C. in January 2017, after Trump’s election.
But their unlikely friendship is now being put under a microscope thanks to Stephanie’s new book.
While Stephanie describes Rachel as a ‘lifelong Democrat,’ Rachel doesn’t appear to have taken that as far as campaigning for any recent Democratic candidates.
However, she did design a ‘Vote!’ T-shirt in 2012, and that year spoke to Time about politics.
‘A very close friend of mine actually works for the Obama campaign, and I dress her all the time,’ she said.
‘I’ve been to the headquarters in Chicago with, actually, the fashion crowd — I went with [Vogue editor in chief] Anna Wintour and other Council of Fashion Designers of America designers. We toured the headquarters in Chicago, so it was fashion meets politics.
‘I feel that politics and fashion really go hand in hand,’ she added.
While the Obamas were in the white house, First Lady Michelle Obama even wore some of Rachel’s designs.
Hidden: Rachel also reportedly texted to celebrate after Melania and Stephanie managed to strategically block Ivanka from the cameras during the Inauguration
But while she may have historically leaned Democrat, Rachel has continued her friendship with Melania in the White House, and has even promoted the First Lady’s work.
‘I have remained friends with her. Her initiative ‘Be Best’ is all about children. She might have one of the biggest hearts quite honestly of anyone I know when it comes to children,’ she told WWD last year.
Melania has also worn Rachel’s designs in the White House.
Melania has promoted her friend in other ways, too. After meeting with Rachel and Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi last February, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Beautiful to hear what @k_satyarthi and @rachelroy are doing to save children and give them a voice.’

After Beyonce sang about a ‘Becky with the good hair’ on her album Lemonade, Rachel seemed to confirm this was her by writing on Instagram, ‘good hair don’t care’
Rachel, who has two children with her ex-husband, Roc-A-Fella Records and Roc-a-Wear co-founder Damon Dash, is most known for her fashion label — though many also know her for rumors that she had an affair with Jay-Z.

In 2016, Beyonce confirmed her husband’s infidelity on her album Lemonade.
In the final line of her song Sorry, Beyonce sang, ‘He only want me when I’m not there. He better call Becky with the good hair’ — leading to furious speculation as to ‘Becky’s’ identity.
While several names were thrown about — including Rita Ora — most fans believed the woman in question was Rachel.
Rachel seemed to confirm this with a snarky Instagram caption — which she later deleted — that read, ‘Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always.’
