Now the video has gone viral, being viewed a whopping 6.44 million times in less than a week and garnering nearly half a million likes so far — and Tom’s earned the very flattering nickname ‘Hot Costco Dad.’
On Twitter: Tom Musto, 49, has gone viral and earned the nickname ‘Hot Costco Dad’ after his son TJ Musto, 25, recorded him unpacking his groceries
Score! Tom was so excited over how inexpensive his groceries were
What a deal! He pointed to the items he bought and exclaimed over the prices
Savings: Tom laughed and opened his eyes wide as he told other people in his kitchen what he paid
Stocking up: Tom likes to host big Sunday dinners, and this week his friend Stephanie took him shopping at Costco
He called me when he was there and said, “TJ, have you ever heard of Costco?”‘ TJ said. ‘I laughed and said “Yes Dad everyone’s heard of Costco.”‘
TJ shared the popular clip on Twitter on March 24 with the caption: ‘My dad went to Costco for the first time in his life.’
The video is only 37 seconds long, but it’s enough to capture just how excited Tom is about his grocery run. He’s seen unpacking items in the kitchen, clearly in awe of the prices of things he scored at the bulk-buying mecca.
Tom laughs, giddy over his haul, holding up food with wide eyes and telling others in the room how much they cost.
He notes that a bag of nuts was just $9, saying: ‘You know how much a little bag in Bond’s is? Probably like $12.50.’
‘These sausages I think were eight bucks,’ he says, holding up a large package of meat.
Too cute: Tom is newly single and TJ said all the internet attention has been great for his confidence
‘About being “hot Costco dad” … it’s a bit overwhelming,’ Tom said
Said TJ: ‘He loves it, even though he’s trying to downplay it all. He’s real humble’
‘Stephanie said she’s getting me a Costco’s card for my birthday,’ he adds, obviously thrilled over the development.
Stephanie, Tom’s friend, had taken him there for the first time last weekend ahead of the big Sunday dinner he was hosting.
‘He called me when he was there and said, “TJ, have you ever heard of Costco?”‘ TJ told Mashable. ‘I laughed and said “Yes Dad everyone’s heard of Costco.”‘
Tom’s excitement over his savings — he believes he save $30 on his $75 purchase — has been infectious, with thousands of other Twitter users left with smiles on their faces.
‘Oh now this is what i like to call Wholesome Content,’ wrote one — to which another user replied with the punny correction: ‘Wholesale.’
Famous: Other Twitter users have shared excitement over the ‘wholesome’ content and also came out in droves to say how attractive Tom is
‘He’s. So. Cute!! Look at all his snacks,’ wrote another, while someone else responsed that Tom is the ‘snack.’
A lot of commenters actually chimed in to say they found Tom attractive, sharing GIFs and compliments.
‘I’m sorry but your dad is fine as hell,’ wrote one.
‘Are your parents still together? Asking for a friend,’ wrote another.
In fact, they aren’t still together — and TJ said that all of the remarks about his dad’s good looks have been good for him.
‘He’s newly single so I’m always trying to up his confidence,’ TJ told Mashable. ‘He loves it, even though he’s trying to downplay it all. He’s real humble.’
‘About being “hot Costco dad” … it’s a bit overwhelming,’ Tom himself told CNBC Make It. ‘I thought this would have died after a day. It’s just crazy.’
‘My kids video me all the time when I don’t know it, they think I am funny,’ he added.
