They have been created by the head baker and owner of the cafe, Damian Smith, who started his apprenticeship as a baker and pastry cook in Canberra in 1981.

Damian has worked in a number of Sydney’s top patisseries, before he opened his first shop with his brother in Canberra in 1985 and later re-settled in the Blue Mountains to open Mountain High in 2006.

Elsewhere on the cafe’s menu, foodies will find everything from a lamb, rosemary and Shiraz pie ($8) to a tuna mornay option and a chicken and green curry variety.

But it’s not just pies you can find, as Mountain High also sells sausage rolls, tarts and sweet pie desserts including apple and custard and salted caramel meringue tart.

‘Whether you prefer subtle slow cooked traditional flavours or some of the bold spicy alternatives, with over thirty varieties on offer here, there is something for everyone, the website reads.

‘You can dine in or takeaway and if you want to make a real meal of it all our pies can be served with a side salad or our three mashed veg and gravy. In winter we offer soups to go with our pies.’
