A mum has revealed her ‘mind blowing’ hack for putting liners in her garbage bin and says it means never having to wrestle with garbage bags again.

The woman posted online after noticing a hole in the side of her bin, designed to have the bag fed through, so it doesn’t have to be tied onto the bin.

‘Have I been putting bin liners in wrong my whole life?’ she asked as she posted her ‘amazing’ discovery.

‘I have literally wrestled bloody bin bags for so long so this is a big deal to me,’ she said.

And other mums in the popular group were divided – with some getting excited about the possibility of replacing bin liners with ease.

‘I am off to check my bin now,’ one woman said.

‘I did the exact same thing when my sister showed me, my brain exploded,’ one woman said.

‘I was excited when I found the hole too,’ another said.

‘I thought it was there to let air out so the bag would sit right, this makes more sense,’ said another.

Others ‘have been doing it for years’.

‘I was excited to, but now my boyfriend is laughing at me because I didn’t know,’ one mum said.

‘Yep, you just twist the bag a bit and pop it through the hole, it is easy,’ said one woman.

‘I have always used it this way,’ one woman said.

Some people said they checked their bins after seeing the post but they ‘don’t have a hole’.

‘Time to get the drill out,’ said one problem solver.

HOW CAN I SECURE MY BIN LINER EASILY?

USE THE HOLE – If your bin has a hole in the top then you should use that as it is made to make securing the liner easier.

Simply put the bag in the bin and then tuck the excess bag in the hole.

Twisting it makes it stay put for longer.

ELASTIC – If your bin doesn’t have a hole and you don’t like to wrestle with the bag to tie a knot then take some elastic and tie the ends together. This will give you an elastic band. Put it on the outside of the bin. and tuck the liner into it.

KNOTS – The best way to tie knots depends on the bin shape. If the bin is a square or rectangle then tie two small knots in diagonally opposite corners. This will secure the bag without hassle. For a round bin pull the liner tight and tie a small knot on the side.

Australian brides in their droves are ordering a wedding dress that is almost 10 times cheaper than the average from the comfort of their own homes.

At $270, the ‘Sophia’ gown from online fashion store ASOS is a fraction of the price brides typically pay Down Under, which was $2,637 in 2020.

The ivory dress – which is the best-seller from the ASOS Wedding Edit – has a sweetheart neckline, short lace sleeves and a half-open back that closes just above the waist.

The waistline is cinched with a thin band before the fabric flows down into a pleated floor-length skirt, a bohemian style perfect for late summer ceremonies at the beach or backyard.

A third said she received the dress ‘beautifully packaged’ in a garment bag and was delighted when it fit her like a glove.

‘The dress is just gorgeous, I’m tall and it actually fits me length wise and is really comfortable. I can’t wait to wear it on my big day!’

Others called it the ideal buy for those on a budget or anyone who doesn’t care to splash big cash on a dress they will only wear once.

Despite widespread praise, many said the dress runs ‘large to size’ and advised having it professionally altered for the perfect fit.

‘I bought this dress for our civil wedding and loved it! It needed a bit of amendment as the top was a bit loose,’ one woman said.

A doting dad surprised his three-year-old daughter by building her an enormous SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired igloo while she was sleeping.

Oscar Risco, a contractor from Brooklyn, New York, spent a whopping 10-hours making a nine-foot replica of SpongeBob’s pineapple house out of snow for his daughter Aliyah earlier this month.

‘She saw it was snowing, and the first thing she said was she wanted an igloo,’ he told Brooklyn Paper.

Risco said he been making igloos for his children since his 21-year-old son was a young kid, explaining that it’s a creative outlet for him.

Aliyah had helped him choose the design for his latest structure before it even started snowing and was eagerly waiting for him to build it.

The dad was shoveling snow into a pile in front of his house when he decided to start the project, working well into the night while his daughter slept.

In addition to the enormous igloo, he also made a smaller replica of the home where SpongeBob’s neighbor Squidward lives.

Risco was up past 4 a.m. building his creation and didn’t get much sleep after that. Just a few hours after he went to his bed, his daughter woke up and saw the igloo.

‘She went crazy,’ he said. ‘She loved it.’

Unsurprisingly, Aliyah wanted to play in it immediately and dragged her dad out of bed in her excitement.

The igloo has also been a hit with the other kids in the community, who look forward to the activities Risco and his wife plan for them.

‘We really attract the entire neighborhood over,’ he said.

A teacher who looks better aged 43 than she did in her 20s has revealed the seven things she wishes she knew earlier in life, and the advice she would pass on to her daughter.

Belinda Norton, from the Gold Coast, said after four decades of keeping fit and healthy and many years of teaching physical education, she has realised several important life lessons.

These include the idea that food is more important than exercise if you want to stay lean, you cannot ‘buy’ good health and you need to prioritise some form of movement every day.

Belinda Norton (pictured), from the Gold Coast, said after four decades of keeping fit and healthy and many years of teaching physical education, she has realised several life lessons

1. Food is the most important thing

If you’re looking to be lean and toned, Belinda said the most important thing to focus on is your diet and what you’re eating.

‘Food is more important than exercise and water even more crucial for the skin and body function,’ Belinda wrote on her website.

She also said stretching is better than any kind of over-training.

‘Make the goal a flexible trunk section – meaning a supple spine,’ she said.

You can do this by involving some sort of yoga moves into each and every day.

2. You can’t buy health

The second life lesson Belinda wishes she knew when she was younger is the idea that health cannot be bought.

‘We cannot pay for health or mobility – once we stop activating our muscles it all stops and it goes rapidly,’ Belinda said.

If you lose mobility, you can’t get it back. The 43-year-old recommends you prioritise some form of daily movement to keep your limbs and muscles supple.

Even if it’s just getting up from your desk to do a lap of the office every hour, this will help.

3. Be aware of your own finances

Belinda said you need to assume financial responsibility, and remove the mindset of having to keep up with others in your purchasing habits.

‘Known your own budget, know when your pay goes in and where it goes out too, as we are all responsible for our own spending,’ Belinda said.

You can do this either on your phone or with something like an Excel spreadsheet, and you should always aim to hold some cash back in savings.

For the past 10 years, Belinda (pictured) said she has got up with the sun and gone out for a walk at least once per week

For the past 10 years, Belinda (pictured) said she has got up with the sun and gone out for a walk at least once per week

4. Get up at sunrise once a week

For the past 10 years, Belinda said she has got up with the sun and gone out for a walk at least once per week.

‘The sun will give you energy and the sunrise will provide positivity even on the harshest heartbreaks,’ she said.

The 43-year-old recommends a once-weekly bath in magnesium salt with a clay mask on the face, which helps to remove any built-up toxins from the week.

5. Take responsibility for yourself

Assuming full responsibility, both in your identity and your finances, will pay dividends down the track.

Now she’s 43, Belinda said she would have told her younger self to keep her own name when she got married along with her own private bank account.

‘Your name is your identity and not about ownership from another,’ she said.

It can also be good to keep some of your finances separate from one another if you are in a couple.

6. Prioritise good quality sleep

Like eating well, making sure you get good quality sleep is key to staying healthy well into your old age.

‘Sleep soundly by stating two grateful moments as your head relaxes onto the pillow,’ Belinda said.

She also recommends absolutely no technology or screen time before bed as a rule.

Belinda (pictured) moves her body 'with varying speed' every day, whether with a long, slow run, hill sprints or a leisurely walk along the beach

Belinda (pictured) moves her body ‘with varying speed’ every day, whether with a long, slow run, hill sprints or a leisurely walk along the beach

7. Move your body with varying speed every day

Finally, Belinda said movement every day is the key to longevity.

She moves her body ‘with varying speed’ every day, whether it’s a long slow run, hill sprints or a leisurely walk.

‘Lift weights regularly and daily stretch on the rug in front of the TV at night,’ Belinda said.

You could also get your children to join in with you too for added enjoyment.

The true cost of life as a single woman in Sydney has been revealed by a radio producer and self-professed ‘collector of kind-of-boyfriends’.

‘Perennially single’ Jana Hocking, who works at the Harbour City’s Triple M station, argues everything from rent and meals to holidays and nights on the town are considerably more expensive when you’re paying for one.

While couples halve costs, the 35-year-old – who writes about her ill-fated relationships and romantic escapades – says singles are shouldered with the full financial burden.

Her examples include furniture, groceries, and weddings, as well as hotels that charge single room supplements and one-bedroom apartments which are unaffordable for a single income but perfectly reasonable split between two.

Ms Hocking said it’s unfair that couples house hunting for a rental are spoiled for choice while singles are left to battle it out over the rare listings suitable for a solo pay packet.

Aside from cost, Ms Hocking says there is also social stigma and accepted bias to contend with when going it alone.

She cited a recent study from the University of Virginia that found real estate agents are more likely to pick a married couple over a single person when choosing between rental candidates.

Ms Hocking also noted the minor expenses that quickly add up when you’re footing bills singlehandedly, including streaming services, food delivery fees and Ubers.

Then there’s the cost of dating, which Ms Hocking claims can total ‘well over’ $100 each week.

She says first date spending is likely to include the cost of an Uber to the bar or restaurant, dinner, half of whatever amount of wine you drink and another Uber home.

But while constant socialising will put a considerable dent in your bank balance, Ms Hocking believes singles cannot put a price on a healthy dose of time with friends.

‘One too many weekends of laying low can really give you a yucky dose of loneliness,’ she said.

‘If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about the single life, it’s that your social life is incredibly important. Interactions keep the ol’ mental health in check.’

And despite the extra cost of single life, Ms Hocking says she wouldn’t trade her freedom and the absence of judgment for eating snacks at 3am for the world.

‘Really, at this current stage of my life I wouldn’t have it any other way,’ she said.

An Australian foodie has created the dessert version of the popular oven-baked feta pasta that has been circling social media for the past few weeks.

Andy shared a TikTok video on February 18 demonstrating how to make the dessert, which has gone viral overnight and received more than one million views.

The method mimics the original recipe but uses sweets and chocolates rather than vegetables, pasta and cheese.

This alternative recipe only requires four ingredients – Maltesers, marshmallows, chocolate syrup and popcorn – and is simple to make.

Andy shared a TikTok video on February 18 demonstrating how to make the dessert, which has gone viral overnight and received more than one million views

In the video Andy placed a packet of Maltesers into a greased baking dish with several huge marshmallows in the centre

A generous amount of chocolate syrup was then drizzled on top

In the video Andy poured one packet of Maltesers into a greased baking dish with several huge marshmallows in the centre.

A generous amount of chocolate syrup was then drizzled on top and the dish was put in the oven to bake at 200 degrees Celsius.

Once the chocolate began to melt and the marshmallows were bubbling, Andy removed the dish from the oven and added in a bowl of popcorn.

Instead of popcorn, strawberries or biscuits can be used

He then stirred the dessert together to create the ultimate sweet chocolate sensation.

Andy ate the dessert while it was warm with a spoon, but the mixture can be left to set to create chunky chocolate blocks.

After posting the new recipe on TikTok, thousands of others were quick to comment and tagged friends to share the idea further.

‘Perfect for movie nights,’ one person wrote, another said: ‘So yum! Will definitely be trying this recipe.’

A third suggested: ‘Would have been better with biscuits or brownie bits instead of popcorn.’

Another said strawberries would taste just as good rather than popcorn, and will add a touch of freshness to the sweet dessert.

How to make the dessert version of the baked feta pasta dish:

Ingredients:

  • Maltesers
  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Popcorn

Method:

Preheat the oven at 200 degrees Celsius and grease a baking dish with butter

Place a whole packet of Maltesers in the dish with the marshmallows in the centre

Pour a generous amount of chocolate syrup on top

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes or until the chocolate melts and the marshmallows start to bubble

Remove from the oven and pour in the popcorn

Mix together well and serve

An Australian woman has revealed how a simple bedroom item has improved her marriage – and everyone in her home is thrilled by it.

The woman bought ‘the snorers’ in her home Aldi anti-snore pillows and ‘after four weeks’ the verdict was in.

‘We have noticed very short periods of snoring, if any, and it is not as loud,’ she said.

She said the pillows made for 'very happy partners' and improved sleep for everyone

She said the pillows made for ‘very happy partners’ and improved sleep for everyone

‘Plus better sleep patterns and happier partners!’ she said.

The woman also claimed the family’s snorers have tossed out all of their other pillows – because the anti-snore one is so good.

‘I would recommend this to anyone with snoring issues,’ she said.

The pillows are $19.95, money the mum doesn’t regret spending on a future of peaceful night sleeps.

The excellent review left other partners of chronic snorers wanting to know more, including how to get their hands on one of the popular pillows.

‘They were a Special Buys item, so you will have to check your local stores,’ the reviewer said.

‘I bought the same one and can vouch for it,’ one person agreed.

‘It doesn’t involve holding the pillow over the snorers face does it,’ said one frustrated partner of a noisy sleeper.

Aldi brings the pillows out each year – and this time people rushed out to get them as soon as they hit the shelves.

A quick search online reveals there’s none in stock in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth or Brisbane and very limited stock in Melbourne.

'It doesn't involve holding the pillow over the snorers face does it,' said one frustrated partner of a noisy sleeper

‘It doesn’t involve holding the pillow over the snorers face does it,’ said one frustrated partner of a noisy sleeper

But not everyone was happy with the pillow, which works by correcting the position of the sleeper’s  head and neck.

‘I am actually finding I snore more with this pillow, I wake myself up with my own snoring now. I am ready to return it,’ said one woman.

‘It didn’t work for my partner unfortunately,’ said another.

‘They don’t work for everyone unfortunately, sleep position is low on the list of snoring issues,’ another added.

The pillow has an ‘S’ shaped foam core which makes sleepers turn on their side instead of on their back which is when most people snore.

HOW DO ANTI-SNORE PILLOWS WORK?

Anti-snoring pillows  help sleeper’s, and their partners who are probably suffering from sleep deprivation as a result of the snoring, in a couple of ways.

1 – Most chronic snorers are back sleepers

This means when they fall asleep their moths are usually open and their tongue slips to the back of their throat, partially blocking the airway. This is what causes the snoring sound.

2 – Made from hyper-allergenic materials

These materials reduce allergies, especially to dust and mites. This helps people sleep better as they can breathe easier.

3 – They keep your head at the right angle

Having pillows which are too high mean the neck is slanted or arched as you sleep. This will cause some people to snore – the anti snore pillows are usually made to combat this.
