While Kylie Kenner has her own private pool to work on her tan, the rest of us can rely on a safer and healthier option – a faux glow

Achieving a natural-looking tan with self-tanner without streaks or blotches requires a little prep.
Before applying: shave and exfoliate your skin the night before. Using an exfoliating product will help remove dead skin cells.
APPLICATION ORDER (start with the legs):
When applying self-tanner, follow a sequential order. Sophie suggests starting with the legs.
‘Moisturize the whole of the knee, the whole of the foot and the back of the foot,’ says Sophie.
‘Take 2 pumps of tanner to the mitt and apply to the leg from the lower knee to the ankle.’
Sophie recommends skimming over the knee, and then fading up the foot, around the sides of the foots and between the toes.
With a cleaning wipe, wipe the toe nails and the back of the heel.

Hands and feet are the trickiest areas to self tan, as they are so much drier than the rest of the body and absorb the tanning solution more.
To prevent product buildup and avoid discoloration, the expert recommends using moisturizer.
‘You’re painting a tan on your body,’ explains Sophie. ‘Moisturizer is like water that you’re using for blending and shading. You’re diluting the tan.
‘Moisturize (she St. Tropez’s Tan Enhancing Moisturiser) the crease of the heel and any dry bits, callouses, baby toes etc… ‘
Follow with the other leg and foot, the thigh and buttocks.
‘Don’t worry if it’s uneven, it will dry streaky but that doesn’t matter.’

No more contortionists moves to try and tan hard to reach places.
To self tan your back, Sophie recommends topping a back scratcher or back brush with your tanning mitt.
‘Take two pumps of the tanner and start with the lower back, work your way up but avoid the neck.’
Before tanning the face, Sophie recommends applying products you can’t live without, i.e. eye serum and moisturizer.
‘Apply a light layer of moisturizer to the face, avoiding products with a lot of oil because they will prevent the tan from developing.
‘For the face, neck and back of the neck, take two pumps of the tanner, and half the amount of St. Tropez moisturizer and blend it together in your bare hands. This is to dilute the tan.
‘Apply it to your face the way you would any moisturizer. Start on cheeks, go up to forehead, under the eyes, over the eyes, all the way around lips then blend down the neck.’
Wash hands immediately after.
‘Take 2 or 3 additional pumps to the mitt and do the stomach, breast area and shoulders’

ARMS, HANDS AND WRISTS
Moisturize the hands, back of the wrists and elbows.
‘Take 2 pumps for the top of the arm and shoulder, stop at the wrist. Take another 2 pumps for inner arm, make sure you go under the underarm.
‘You’ll need a towel to take the moisturizer off the hands so they are clean.
‘Without adding more product to the mitt, spread the hand wide and fade the product down, making sure you do the sides and in between every finger. Once it’s blended, take the cleansing wipe and wipe nails, cuticles and palm. Do the same thing to the other hand.’
Wrists are prone to color grabbing. To prevent patchy discoloration, rub St. Tropez moisturizer over palms and then fade it up the crease of the wrist.
‘Go in between the knuckles with the moisturizer, making sure it’s all blended.
‘Hands can be washed in 1 or 1.5 hours.’
Wait until the following morning to shower. The expert recommends bringing the mitt into the shower with you.
‘Put shower gel on the mitt and rub your entire body. Sometimes with an extra dark tan the tan sits on skin, this will make it flawless and clean the mitt at same time.’
‘Don’t worry if it’s uneven, it will dry streaky but that doesn’t matter,’ said Sophie
