Morgan Miller, the wife of former Olympic skier Bode Miller, has revealed how she plans on honoring her late daughter Emmy by incorporating her name into her unborn child’s moniker.
The 34-year-old mom, who lost her 19-month-old in a drowning accident in 2018, opened up about Emmy’s name on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, saying she’d like her baby’s name to pay tribute to her big sister in some way.
‘So Emmys name was, is Emeline Grier Miller, and she was the fifth,’ Morgan explained. ‘One of my favorite names out of all my kids, but I will not use any of her names for a first name for this baby. I want this baby to have her own first name.
‘I love the idea of incorporating Emmy’s name somehow into her name, whether it’s using an initial or one of her names as like a first or second middle name,’ she added. ‘But I definitely want this little girl to have her own identity. I don’t want to take any of Emmy’s sparkle away from her. That is all hers.’
Plan: Morgan Miller, wife of former Olympic skier Bode Miller, has revealed she wants to pay tribute to her late daughter Emmy by incorporating her name into her unborn baby’s moniker
Boundaries: The expectant mom explained that Emmy’s full name is Emeline Grier Miller, but she insisted they won’t use any of the monikers as a first name for her unborn daughter
Heartbreaking loss: Emmy died in a tragic drowning accident in a neighbor’s pool in June 2018 when she was 19 months old
Morgan also joked about how active the baby has been in the womb, saying: ‘A lot of you have actually noticed how much this little girl is kicking my a**, so if she doesn’t knock it off, I’m going to name her Jack and let Nash have his wish.’
She explained in an Instagram post on Thursday that the whole family has been ‘thinking so much about names’ now that they know they are expecting a girl.
‘Those of you who have followed our journey of growing our family know that it is usually pretty hard for us to pick a name and often times it takes us 3-6 weeks after baby is born to decide,’ she wrote. ‘We like to meet baby first, see what they look like and experience their personality. Plus, Bode and I never agree.
‘Most of our kids have family names too or names that have meaning so we have been toying with the idea of incorporating some part of Emmy’s name; Emeline Grier Miller V,’ she continued.
‘As of now, Bode’s favorite is Scarlett, I like Olivia and calling her Liv, my sister loves the name Goldie, Dace likes Bowie, Nash loves Jack and Nate hasn’t weighed in yet. Would love to hear all of your name suggestions because we will need some serious help.’
Tribute: Morgan said she is thinking of ‘using an initial’ or one of her Emmy’s names as either a first or second middle name for the baby
Bode, 43, and Morgan were overcome with emotion when they learned they were expecting a baby girl — nearly three years after they lost Emmy.
The couple broke down in tears of joy during a celebratory gender reveal party on May 23, when they popped pink confetti cannons with their friends and family to learn the sex of their child.
They threw the fiesta-themed gender reveal at their home in California, days after announcing to the world that they were expecting another child following the birth of their 18-month-old twin sons Asher and Aksel.
While sharing the news of their pregnancy, which they have both insisted will be their last, the couple confessed that they were hoping for a baby girl. During an interview with the Today show the next morning, they opened up about at seeing their dream come true.
‘It is so special,’ Morgan said. ‘I feel like I haven’t fully got my head wrapped around it because every time I start thinking about it I just start crying. I mean, to get two experiences of a relationship with a little girl earth side is going to be unbelievable.’
Bode and Morgan have four sons together: Nash, six, Easton, two, and twins Asher and Aksel, whom they welcomed in a home birth in November 2019.
The former professional skier also has a daughter Dace, 13, and son Nate, eight, from a previous relationship. All six children were present at the gender reveal, with the proud dad revealing that they were all ‘really excited and happy’ about their joyful news.

Emotional: Both Morgan and Bode shed tears when they learned they are expecting a baby girl, having had four sons together, Nash, six, Easton, two, and Asher and Aksel, 18 months
Speaking about the moments before the gender reveal, Bode admitted that he was nervous about what color confetti would come flying out of the cannons, sharing: ‘It was nerve-wracking and definitely for that last about half a second before I twisted the thing I was like, “Oh my god, wait, this could be either one.”
‘We really had no idea. Everyone was really excited and happy. I was pretty confident that it was going to be a girl up until that last half a second, and then for some reason my confidence completely evaporated and I was like, “Oh my god, please be pink!”
‘But at the other side of it, I had all our boys around us and Dace was there and I think we were just surrounded by such great people, friends who have supported us through everything in our lives, and all our kids who were just fired up either way. And they’re all great boys. Even though I panicked for half a second, I was like, “Alright, let’s do this.”‘
In a sweet video of the moment, which Morgan shared on Instagram shortly after their Today appearance, both she and Bode are seen wiping away tears after finding out that they are expecting another daughter.
‘I want to remember this moment forever,’ she wrote, adding: ‘IT’S A GIRL!!! There are no words to describe this moment. My heart is overflowing with joy and we are so excited to welcome a baby GIRL into the family in November!’

Nervous: Bode confessed tha he was worried about what color was going to pop out of the cannons
Phew! ‘I was pretty confident that it was going to be a girl up until that last half a second, and then for some reason my confidence completely evaporated,’ he said
Prior to the gender reveal, Bode and Morgan confessed that they decided to try for one more baby in the hopes that they would have a daughter.
‘After losing Emmy, we both felt like we wanted to try for a girl,’ Bode told People last month. ‘You know, there’s obviously no replacing kids.’
‘When you lose someone like that, when you lose a child, you really recognize how special [that parent-child relationship] is,’ Morgan added.
‘And not that we were ungrateful for what we had, our kids are absolutely incredible. But we just had so much more love to give and we had so much more love we wanted to give.’
Fiesta! Morgan shared a sneak peek at their gender reveal party, which took place in their California home
Senor or Senorita? The party was fiesta-themed and featured several cute touches, including colorful signs, and piñatas
Finishing touches: Morgan also showcased their delicious array of cakes, as well as the colorful balloon arch that they had strung up outside their home
Sweet: The couple called on local taco truck Soho Tacos, which also did the catering for their daughter Emmy’s first birthday party
According to both Bode and Morgan, their newest arrival will also be their last, with the former Olympic skier insisting: ‘We’re finally on our last pregnancy. We’re at the finish line.’
‘Kids require a lot of attention and a lot of love,’ his wife chimed in. ‘We have a lot of attention and a lot of love to give, but we feel like this will be the last one for us to be able to put all of ourselves into. So that way, all of them still get a bunch of love and attention. And we’re not stretching ourselves too thin.’
After the arrival of their identical twin sons, who were born in November 2019, Bode admitted that the couple thought ‘maybe that’s the end for us.’ However, they agreed to try for one more child together in order to fill the ‘space they still have in their hearts to give more love.’
In a post shared on his Instagram to mark the news of their pregnancy, Bode paid tribute to his ‘incredible’ wife, saying: ‘Cats outta the bag: we’re at the finish line. Excited to announce that Miller baby ocho is due in November!
More love to give: Morgan, who is seen during her pregnancy with the twins, explained that they wanted to have another child because they ‘have so much more love to give’
Emotional: ‘After losing Emmy, we both felt like we wanted to try for a girl,’ Bode told People. ‘You know, there’s obviously no replacing kids’
Done and dusted: The proud dad did insist that this will be the couple’s final pregnancy, however, and both confessed that they are keeping their fingers crossed it will be a girl
‘@morganebeck you are beyond incredible.’
The couple is hoping that their baby daughter will be welcomed in a home birth at their California property, explaining to Today that the house is where they feel most comfortable.
‘This is our comfort zone, here in California, we’ll see, but I think we’re planning as of now with a home birth but we always have our back-up plan to be in the hospital if anything seems off or seems crazy, but we’ve been really lucky and had great births before,’ Bode said.
When the couple welcomed their twin boys in November 2019, the home birth didn’t quite go as expected. Their midwives failed to make it to their house in time for the arrival of their first baby, forcing Bode’s mom Jo Kenney to jump in and lend a helping hand with the delivery.
Thankfully, with the help of Bode and his mother, who was a midwife herself, Morgan delivered their first ‘healthy and happy’ baby boy, and the midwives then arrived in time to assist her with the birth of her second son.

In February last year, the proud parents shared intimate details and images from the birth, with Morgan explaining at the time: ‘I’m sharing because I want you to see we women are bad** mothers and our bodies are beautiful. It’s a scary emotional ride but damn, we are capable of so much more than we even know.’
Tragedy: Emmy drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool in June 2018. She was rescued from the water, but paramedics were unable to revive her
At the start of this year, former volleyball player Morgan shared another update from the birth of her twins. She revealed the extreme physical toll her last pregnancy took on her body while detailing how she got back into shape following the boys’ arrival.
In a series of posts shared on her Instagram Stories, the mom showed off images of her huge pregnancy belly, as well as the stretch marks, excess skin, and separated abs that she was left with after her sons were born.
‘The twins did a number on my stomach,’ she explained. ‘And after being a professional athlete where my body was my vessel in which I was able to perform, the massive changes (including diastasis [ab separation]) was hard for me.’
She explained that she did workouts with a personal trainer as well as ‘very basic pilates’ to help with her diastasis. She also implemented a rigorous skincare regimen to deal with her stretch marks and sagging skin.
Throwback: In January, Morgan opened up about the extreme physical toll her last pregnancy had on her body
Painful: She revealed she suffered with severe stretch marks, excess skin, and ab separation, which she combatted with workouts, microneedling, and a strict skincare regimen
Ta-da! Fourteen months after the birth, Morgan saw a drastic improvement to her appearance and her muscles
Morgan began with a microneedling session, which she admitted was ‘so painful,’ before treating her stretch marks at home with Frank Body’s Original Coffee Scrub.
Fourteen months after the birth of her twins, the mother had seen a drastic improvement to her skin and her muscles. Now 18 months later, she is getting ready to do the whole thing again with her fifth pregnancy.
The couple’s latest announcement comes just under three years after the family was devastated by the loss of 19-month-old Emmy, who drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool in June 2018.
Bode and Morgan were attending a party with their children when their baby girl fell into the pool. Emmy was rescued from the water, but paramedics were unable to revive her, and she later died in hospital.
Morgan, who was pregnant with her son Easton at the time, said ‘losing a child while pregnant was the most confusing experience of my life.’
Since Emmy’s death, the parents have dedicated themselves to raising awareness of infant drownings and advocating for all moms and dads to get their own children into swimming classes as early as possible.
